"The piano's always been my friend," says Martin "Cherry Cherry Boom Boom" Kierszenbaum. "When I'm happy, I tell my friend. When I'm bummed out, my friend makes me feel better."

It's no surprise that Martin spends most of his life in and around music, running the maverick pop label Cherrytree Records, but it is a surprise to some that he's been a musician, songwriter and producer since he was a kid.

Piano lessons brought him to songwriting. Songwriting led him to pick up the guitar and bass and, in turn, to arranging and producing his own songs.

"I had an old Mac SE30 and I'd sync it to a reel-to-reel machine with SMPTE code so I could record vocals and guitars," says Martin. It was a way of learning the basics of recording and making music. It was straight-up, pure joy."

Martin's production work led him to start working for record labels. And that led to some pretty crazy musical adventures. In 2002, Martin wrote and produced for Russia's goth-pop duo t.A.T.u. co-writing their no. 1 UK hit "All the Things She Said" which also received 2 BMI radio airplay awards in the US.

Martin also produced and co-wrote Flipsyde's "Happy Birthday:" a song with such an emotional lyric and melody that it ended up a top 5 record in Germany, Austria, Belgium and Sweden.

Martin then produced and co-wrote 4 songs with Lady Gaga (including the title track) on her debut album "The Fame," which sold over 16 million albums.

Other collaborations included those with pioneering pop artists such as Far East Movement, Robyn and Natalia Kills.

"I've been having a such blast writing songs with friends and playing," says Martin, "that one Friday night I got to the studio and decided to record a cover of one of my favorite songs: "Come Back from San Francisco" by Magnetic Fields. I don't know what came over me, but I tracked and sang it that weekend."

He sent it to a few friends and one of them, Arjan Writes, posted it online. It started to get positive feedback. Soon Larry Flick, host of The Morning Jolt on Sirius Radio's OutQ channel 108 had added it to his playlist to growing requests.

"Larry called me and encouraged me to release a single." recalls Martin.

So he went back in the studio, sat at the piano and recorded a new song. This time, one he'd written called "One & Only."

A juicy slice of piano pop, "One & Only" is a sonic snapshot of Martin's pop roots that showcases his off-the-beaten-path lyrical style.

"I wanted to focus the production on the essence of the song. I didn't want the recording to feel like it was from any specific era. I guess I was shooting for timeless," laughs Martin. "And I wanted to put the shine on my friend the piano."

"One & Only" will be out soon. For details, visit www.cherrycherryboomboom.com or contact diego.rivers@mail.com
